OUR (LONGER) STORY
Before there was Cobalt, founder and CEO Jacqui Barrineau enjoyed a versatile journalism career for 20-plus years, including 12 at USA Today. She held several roles during her time there, her last being the Audience Engagement Editor. In addition to writing and editing over-performing columns and newsletters, she created shareable, engaging content for USA Today’s social platforms, delivering accurate, real-time news to millions of fans.
After USA Today, Jacqui transitioned back to her early roots in advertising, serving as the Director of Social Media and Engagement at the Paper and Packaging Board, an agricultural marketing service that establishes and guides campaigns to promote paper use and expand demand for paper-based packaging products.
As Director of Social Media, Jacqui oversaw P+PB’s consumer-facing digital and social initiatives for the Paper & Packaging — How Life Unfolds™ national campaign. In 2016, she orchestrated the digital and social efforts for the award-winning "Letters of Peace" holiday campaign, which garnered more than 9.5 million digital video views and 350 million impressions across print, digital, social media and earned media.
Following "Letters of Peace," Jacqui led P+PB's first foray into experiential marketing at the 2017 SXSW Trade Show. The "Powered by Paper" booth, a gallery of groundbreaking innovations created from paper-based materials, was one of the most successful and engaging exhibits in Austin. Meanwhile, the PR and social media campaigns garnered more than 80 million impressions over the 3.5 days of the trade show.
In mid-2017, after several years of researching social-media marketing for small businesses, Jacqui decided it was time to use the marketing skills and expertise that she had honed working with national brands to help small-business owners achieve their business goals. Since hanging out her shingle, she has developed year-long social-media strategies for regional firms, doubled web traffic for an industry leader in construction media, and consulted on digital strategy for a national character campaign.
